Design Principles
The elements of art, which are shape, form, line, color, value, space, and texture, are the "building blocks" that are used to create a design.
The principles of design are concepts that suggest how to arrange these elements to produce a visually appealing overall effect.
Proportion is the relationship of the size of elements to the whole and to each other.
Balance is an arrangement of elements to create a feeling of equality across the document.
Emphasis creates a focal point and draws attention.
Harmony uses like elements such as color, pattern, or shapes to create unity in a presentation.
Variety is the use of differing elements such as color, pattern, or shapes to create interest or emphasis.
Repetition creates consistency and pattern.
Alignment is how items line up with one another, such as on the left side or the right side, and horizontally or veritcally.
Contrast is having two dissimilar elements next to one another.
Proximity is how near or far two design elements are from each other.
Symmetry is used to create formal balance so that what appears on one side of the page is mirrored on the other.
