Mechanical Advantage with Pulleys
The first instance is labeled Direction Change. There is only one pulley. As the right side of the belt is pulled down, the left load side moves upward in equal measure.
The second instance is labeled Force Multiplier. There are two pulleys. As the right side of the belt is pulled down, the left load side moves upward half of the distance with the left-side pulley.
The third instance is labeled Distance Multiplier. There are two pulleys. As the left side of the belt is pulled down with the left-side pulley, the right load side moves upward twice the distance.
