Chapter 6: Modeling, Testing, and Final Outputs | Career Activity

Ship Engineers

Ship engineers are involved in both designing and operating ships. Ships will generally have a team of engineers onboard to make sure the ship runs smoothly. Engineers must design ships to operate independently, as they are often on long runs across water without access to outside help. A ship must be able to power itself and have the resources to make quick repairs when something goes wrong. This responsibility will fall to the onboard engineers. Along with operations of the ship, engineers must also concern themselves with the safety of the crew and any pollution the ship may be releasing into the water.
