Chapter 10 Video
VOICE-OVER: How do you ignore something when you see it everywhere you go?
Girl sitting on couch watching TV.
VOICE-OVER: When you’re watching TV, every other commercial is for a new drug. Ask your doctor if blank is right for you. It seems like literally everybody I know is taking something.
Girl looking at medicine bottles.
VOICE-OVER: My parent’s medicine. I’m not even sure what they’re all for. Most of them probably won’t get you high. But maybe some of them could. If you could take enough of them.
Two kids in hallway at school. Girl passes by watching purchase of pills.
VOICE-OVER: There are kids at school who would know. Kids who come to school with bottles and Ziploc bags. They trade pills at lunch. Blue for yellow. Red for white.

Each of the pills has a nickname. I hear them whispered at me. Oxy. Percs and Vikes. Juice. Black Beauties. I don’t know what they all stand for. Not sure what they all do, but I’m guessing there’s a pill for everything.
Two kids in class with girl sitting behind them. Exchange of pills.
VOICE-OVER: One kid I know sold his Adderall to the highest bidder. He’s supposed to take it to help with his ADHD, but I guess he figured the money was better. The girl who buys them takes them because she wants to stay skinny. Somebody told her this was the easiest way.
Girl sitting in class next to boy who seems out of it.
VOICE-OVER: There’s another kid who I know is using. He used to freak out before tests, so he started to take his mother’s Xanax.
Image of test with “F” in red.
VOICE-OVER: I’ve seen the grades he gets now. I don’t think the pills are helping.
Three kids passing around a bottle.
VOICE-OVER: It isn’t all pills, though. Some kids mix cough syrup with their soda. The purple drink. I guess they heard celebrities do it, so it must be all right. It’s just cough syrup after all, so how bad can it be? How bad can it be?
Girl sitting on couch again. Flash to “Say No to Drugs” on screen.
VOICE-OVER: You hear all this stuff about how you shouldn’t drink and you shouldn’t smoke because those things can kill you. And I know it’s true. I’ve seen it happen.
Image of pills on sink.
VOICE-OVER: But what about the things that are supposed to make people feel better? The things sitting right along the bathroom sink.
VOICE-OVER: Can those kill you, too?
