Introduction to Health and Wellness
SPEAKER 1: Life is made up of choices. And many of the choices you make everyday will have a significant impact on your health and happiness. Your choices will also impact the people around you.
SPEAKER 2: The choices you make today could not only affect you tomorrow, but they could make a difference for years to come.
SPEAKER 1: But making the right choice isn't always easy, which you probably already know.
The Smokers. Trying not to get caught. It's not permitted anywhere on school grounds, but they don't care. Smoking also will probably lead to an early heart attack or lung cancer, but apparently, they don't care about that either.
SPEAKER 2: The Video Game Addict. was up until 3:00 playing XBOX. Forgot to do his homework. Apparently also forgot to sleep.
SPEAKER 1: He calls himself "Big Fry" cause that's all he ever eats. Every day, a plate of French fries. I've never seen him so much as touch a piece of fruit. Really nice guy, but we worry about him a little.
The Party Girls. Apparently somebody's parents are going out of town, so they're planning a busy weekend. Last time that happened, the place was littered with empty bottles and one kid got so sick he had to go to the hospital. My parents wouldn't let me go even if I wanted to which trust me, I don't.
SPEAKER 2: The Spectators. They find any excuse they can to get out of gym class. I think one of them is allergic to exercise. The other one's just afraid of sweat. Somebody says they saw one of them do a jumping jack once, but it's just a rumor. I personally don't buy it.
The Spreader. Apparently hasn't heard of tissues, or soap, or germs. Maybe he doesn't realize that every square inch of his body is host to thousands of bacteria. He doesn't always think about the kinds of germs he could be passing along. Be careful if he tries to give you a high five.
SPEAKER 1: The Crammer. Has a quiz next period. Forgot to study. Or decided not to...until now. Totally stressed, as you can see. Of course, we're all stressed. Some of us just find better ways to manage it than others.
SPEAKER 2: From the foods you eat, to the people you hang out with, to the way you spend your free time. The choices you make every day affect your physical, emotional, intellectual, and social health.
SPEAKER 1: You are in charge of your own well-being. You decide what risks to take because you'll have to deal with the consequences. Making healthy decisions means having the knowledge, and the courage, to do what's best for you and the people around you.
SPEAKER 2: So think about what you can do to stay healthy. And think about these questions as well.
