The Communication Process
Communication is a process by which we share information, create relationships, persuade, and entertain others. The communication process is a series of actions on the part of the sender and the receiver of a message and the path the message follows.
The sender begins the communication process. First, the sender decides there is a need to relay information to the receiver. That information is called the message.
The message may be in words (written or spoken), pictures, or even video. Putting the message into the format it will be sent to the receiver in is known as encoding.
The channel is the way the message is sent to the receiver. This could be a conversation, a letter, an e-mail, or any number of other forms depending on the content of the message.
The receiver physically receives the message through the channel from the sender.
The receiver then translates or decodes the message-making sure that the contents of the message are understood.
Feedback is the receiver's response to the sender and concludes the communication process. This is a way of letting the sender know that the message has been received and understood.
